Disney/Pixar's Lightyear Review with Coloring Sheets!

Lightyear, in theaters on June 17 2022, is the perfect summer kiddo movie. When the day is rainy or too hot, Lightyear movie is the perfect way to escape.  I took my littlest with me to review it too, and she was a big fan.  Read on to find out about language, violence, and any parental issues you may want to know!  This review is spoiler free because there are some great surprises in Lightyear.

Where does Buzz Lightyear come from?

Toy Story is one of our family favorites.  We love to watch all of the DVD's in the van on road trips, and it never fails to bring the adults to tears.  If you are a fan of those movies, you will really love Lightyear.  It is the origin story for Buzz, and the movie that made Andy a fan.  While you don't see much about the planet Buzz is from, you will find out a lot about the most important people in his life.  Buzz is pretty much an anti-hero for most of the movie.  That same attitude that he had about inferior toys, is evident in his relationships with most of the cast.  It was weird that he was unlikable at times!

The trailer for Lightyear:

Will we see the same Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story?

Not exactly.  Lightyear Buzz is the upgraded version of the toy version.  This isn't the toy, but a more complex character that explains why so many little boys LOVE Buzz.

Lightyear Basic Story:

Buzz (played by Chris Evans) and his compatriots are stranded on a planet 4.2 million light years away from Earth.  He and his fellow Space Rangers are tasked with trying to save their crew from a hostile planet.  Adults and fans of the series Orange is the New Black, will be excited to hear the voices of Dale Soules (Darby Steel) and Uzo Aduba (Alisha Hawthorne).  This Buzz isn't as silly as the Toy Story version, he is a hero.  I loved it!

Is Lightyear kid friendly?

Absolutely. There is mild violence, most of it towards robot aliens, bugs, and plants (which I know sounds weird, but I don't want to give any spoilers).  There is no adult language that I heard at all.  It does have a PG rating, and a same sex kiss involving a married couple.

Should we go see Lightyear?

Yes.  Absolutely.  Toy Story fans, Disney fans, anyone who is a fan of superhero/space types will really like it.  Totally a feel-good movie with some big surprises.  Like epic big.
