California Update! The Movers Came, Covid Shutdown, and Finding a Home

I am so super late in sharing this saga.  For those of you who have been following me, we had an unexpected move from Maryland to California.  How does that happen?  Well your hubby gets another job within his company, and it moves lightening fast.  Case and point, the two bins of snow shoes, and mittens I didn't have time to give away before we left.  Although apparently I will need them next winter, when my Maryland temperatures have left my body.  When it dips below 70, people here wear snow coats.  I'm not even kidding.  Keep reading to hear about the movers, how we survived lockdown number 2, and the house search.

We will brave the beach no matter the conditions!

You can read about how we found out about the move, here.

So we found out we were moving, about three weeks before the movers came.  We had adventures in Covid travel with three kids (and a dog/cat on the plane) and a month in a crappy hotel. Then after about a month, the movers came.  The timing was hilarious.

You can read about traveling with the whole fam...here.

My youngest has a birthday on December 3, the day the truck arrived from Maryland.  I asked that we delay a day, so that we could celebrate her birthday.  We are very aware of how sad and weird birthdays are this year for them, especially without friends here. So we started the move in on December 4.

Happy birthday from our crappy hotel room!

It was schedule for 1.5 days and it took 3.  LOL.  Our neighborhood is set off of the street, and there is one freight elevator that movers can use.  The garage didn't have the clearance for any of the trucks, so they had to park pretty far from the elevator, and haul our stuff.  This group thankfully wore masks.  Geez oh pete the ones in Maryland.

So on Sunday night they were finally done.  We realized very quickly that our 3000 sq feet of stuff wasn't going to fit in the 1500 square foot rental.  Turns out we packed an 8x10 storage unit from floor to ceiling too.  We will be dealing with that mess soon enough...UGH.

I thought I would hate that the kids all share one room, but its actually great.  Its tricky to organize, and keep neat, but I love how close they all are.  I love to hear them giggle at night.  The house has three bedrooms, but my hubs needs an office, so all in one room it is!

They were beyond excited to see familiar toys.

We also have no dining table.  Remember my kids school area set up in Maryland?  I will link it here.  We decided that it was more important to have the desk where they sit for 6-8 hours a day than a kitchen table.  We got some barstools, a coffee table, and make it work!  If we need a table, I have a folding table and table cloths, but I think we wont be entertaining anytime soon!

Back to the three day move.  On the Sunday the movers left, California started a stay at home order.  Yup.  Like the movers were concerned that they wouldn't be able to work the next day.  It honestly didn't affect us much, except normal covid stuff.  It's super hard to be so near family, and not be able to see them.   Was the holiday different for you this year?

I'm so thankful to you for reading!

At this point we are all settled into our rental.  We have a lease here until May, and are just beginning our house hunt.  There is nothing on the market here, and when something is in our price range...it is gone in less than a day.  Pretty sure it will be adventures in home buying, and if you follow me on instagram, you can see it all! LOL.

Here's an update before I even published this.  HA.  We found a house, and I had an unexpected hysterectomy.  SOOOOO I've been out for a bit.  Back in there peeps!
