Let me put it this way, if you are a you are a young teen/tween, or their parent? A Wrinkle in Time is for you! It fills a gap that has been missing for the tween demographic...it's wholesome, family friendly, no cursing, and no potty humor. I am so tired of seeing those things in kid programming.
Life lessons? This movie had them aplenty. There are a lot of timely topics about bullying, loving the person that you are, and the importance of family. My parental self loves that. Even my eight year old, who is probably on the younger end of the target demographic, picked up on those themes. Here are her thoughts about the movie:
I know that she mentioned that it was scary. I wouldn't say it was "scary", but it was intense. There were moments where you worried for the safety of the cast (that you genuinely admire-especially if you are eight). She was concerned for their safety, and the bad guy is real. The bad guy is evil, and the potential for evil in all of us. It's a little hard not to be scared of that.
Another thing? The cast. I am sure you have seen the trailers, and photography from the movie. Oprah. Reese. Mindy. Ok, ok that's not all, but when I grow up, I want to have Reese's skin. And Oprah's.
In the interest of full disclosure, I did NOT reread the book before seeing the movie. So many times film just falls short of my own imagination, so I thought it best to not refresh myself.
All in all, again I am super happy that Disney has given parents ANOTHER safe, family friendly movie. Go see it, and tell me what you think!
