Have I mentioned that we have a little one born on Halloween?! Yes, my sweet little boy R3 was born at 10:20 am on October 31. I popped out that little 9 lb VBAC just in time for Daddy to make it to trick or treat with the Honeybadger. How's that for multitasking?

At any rate, because we have a birthday, Halloween is a big deal around here. Birthdays are a big deal around here. Daddy makes and decorates a special cake that the kiddo chooses. Last year he had a pumpkin. The year before he had, you guessed it! A pumpkin. Whomp, whomp. As a result he is getting a full on, Thomas Train choo choo fabulous party. The costume even talks. I have been trying to make the house just as festive. Daddy works so hard on those cakes, mama has to make the house look decent!
I have been decorating like crazy. It's difficult to admit (not) that there is no way that I can do it all. Belle is still so small that I really have to put my craft projects into perspective. There will be no new wreath this year, the old one is still awesome! (If you follow me on Pinterest, you will see a lot of the crafts that I have done.)
My project this year has been updating the mantel in a small way that was both inexpensive, fun and versatile! I ended up finding the perfect thing at Michaels. Made by Martha Stewart Crafts, it is a pennant banner waiting to happen. Each of the 24 sheets is reversible. One side is Halloween, the other is fall appropriate. When the holiday is over, I can flip it over and still use it for fall! The best part is that the holes were already punched. All I had to do was use this jute (waiting for a project) that I had on hand. I measured, strung it and voila! Instant Holiday!
