I Can't Believe I Made it on a Solo Florida Vacation with Three Kids!

Last week, the kids and I ditched the cold weather to head down to Florida. It may seem crazy to fly with three kids, alone, but it wasn't that bad.  It isn't easy, but do able. Anywhoo, despite the fact that they cancelled spring break due to too many snow days, we happily hit the beach. Otherwise, I would still be freezing my booty off in Maryland!  This post contains affiliate links of some of my favorite things!

The kids are travelers.  Seriously.  They are conditioned, and they LOOOVE the screen time that they get while we travel. (Insert eye roll.) But, it's all about survival folks.  We have these really cool headphones that connect together (if they decide) to watch the same movie, or activity.
One really nice thing about staying in a home (VRBO, airbnb) is you aren't stuck.  The home we stayed in had a pool, which is the FIRST thing my kids did.  I'm sure the neighbors loved us at 7 am every morning.  I love having access to laundry, especially with sand and water activities.

Yes, she does have a shiny suit on, and it is amazing.  I got it at target, along with a super cute sparkly rashguard.  You can find those here.  My teeny, tiny ballerina.

Does that look like dawn at the beach?  Why, you aren't far off.  HAHA!  I covered those kiddos in sunscreen (and rash guards) and went to the beach every day until about 11.  That's when the sun comes out in force, and I was worried about sunburn.  My babes haven't seen the sun in 7 or so months, and I consider it a mom win to not have a single sunburn from this trip.

That sweet girl is a blue-eyed blonde (how I got that child is beyond me), and I really struggled to find safe sunglasses that would actually protect her eyes.  After some research, I found these on Amazon.  Sigh, I love Amazon. The best part is that they came in a two pack, one pink and one black.  Everyone was happy.

What I discovered is that my kids are water kids.  Not really a surprise, but after leaving the beach, they would immediately jump into the pool.  I literally had to force them out to eat, and sleep.

You may be wondering...WHERE IS YOUR HUSBAND? WHY ARE YOU TAKING THEM TO FLORIDA SOLO?  It didn't really feel right vacationing without our Daddy, but dang.  He needs to get this PhD DONE and having the kids out of the house really helps.

My Baby K'tan Weekender is a BEAST, in a good way.  You can see the yellow wet bag peeking out in the picture above.  I used it every day to throw wet, sandy rashguards in on our way from the beach.  The pocket just beyond that is the cooler, which was amazing to throw in sandwiches and snacks.  Overall, I have been super impressed by this guy because it doesn't even look like it does all that.  It just looks cute.

Let's get to the good stuff, the food.  Hello garlicky, cracked conch.  You were super yummy and I want more. We tried to go to places that aren't on the tourist track.  The Fish Shack, in Pompano Beach, definitely fits that bill.  I think it has 6 tables, and a bar where you can eat.  If you don't get there by 4:30?  You aren't getting a seat, so get carry out.  If you can do it?  GO.  It is sooo good.

I highly recommend our next (out of the way) trek.  One of the last things we did was go to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.  It's a weird name for a sea turtle rescue organization. It is essentially free (they only ask for a donation), and the kids loved it.  They even feed the fish/turtles at various times during the day (see the above picture), and it was a huge hit.  If you look under the family travels bubble on my Instagram profile, you can see even more from our trip!  And the nature center.  I had to get a new phone, my photos didn't upload, and so the only surviving picture from that day is the one you see above. WAAAAHHHHH!

Here is a link to my Kate Spade suit. Hat here.

I want to go BACK.  It has been so cold this week!  Did you go somewhere fun?  I need more vacation ideas that are great for kids!
