Pokemon Detective Pikachu: a kid friendly review

Last night we took the kids to see Detective Pikachu!! We are Pokémon fans in our house, and if you follow me on Instagram, you saw my son in all of his pokemon gear.  The kids play with the cards, and the hubs and I have dabbled (ok I have dabbled and he plays) Pokémon Go.  With that in mind, here are our thoughts about Detective Pikachu. Reading beyond this point means that you agree to my updated privacy policy, and use of commissioned links.  Pokemon: Detective Pikachu opens everywhere on Thursday, May 9.

Her "I'm not sure" review

In Detective Pikachu, we are transported to Ryme City, a place where Pokemon and humans live together in peace. Pokemon fans will love finding their favorite pokemon in every scene of the movie.  My kids loved identifying their favorites, and watching them come to life (I linked our pokemon gear from amazon at the end of this post).  But...It’s a kids movie.  Even with the addition of an always funny Ryan Reynolds, this one is definitely made with the kiddo audience in mind.  Parents won’t hate it, with dry humor, but the characters are juvenile.  You can read more specifics about the plot here.

You won’t regret taking the kids to this on a rainy weekend, and you will get some laughs out of it.

No language that I can recall, but I don’t think it’s made for the under 6 crowd.  My five year old was overwhelmed by the intensity, and spent the whole movie in my lap.  Here are her thoughts...

Do you have plans to see it?
