My Crazy Year Resulted in Friendship Casualties

Jan 11, 2016
Mom friendships are hard, autism

I have fallen off the map in the last year for a variety of reasons but the biggest one is my son.

It's challenging, at times, juggling all of the new information about a diagnosis for your child. Hell, it can be hard to keep up with adding another child to the family.  In this case, there are an absolute TON of doctors appointments, therapy sessions and just normal kid things (and other children things) that get in the way.

The biggest casualty this year has been my friendships.  In every other year I have had time to participate in Stroller Strides on a regular basis, go for playdates and all of those fun things that I normally do.  We did some of those things last year, it is true.  Just not enough.

I will do better.  I need to reach out, send a text, let's have lunch!  I am determined to make time to take a class or get a glass of wine.

It was so apparent to me during the holiday season.  Thankfully, this school year things are settling into a routine. The therapy sessions are done and he is in school regularly.  I need to make time for doing fun things for myself.  I need to start working out regularly again, feeling confident and just feeling like me again dammit.

Anyone with me?  I think it would be great to have some fun accountability.  Did you do something for YOU today?
